Montana Resources looks to expand tailings pond

standardIn order to continue mining in Butte, Montana Resources has to enlarge Yankee Doodle Tailings pond.

By 2020 Montana Resources’ tailings pond will reach its boundaries. MR is preparing to apply for a permit with the Montana Department of Environmental Quality to enlarge Yankee Doodle Tailings pond and the earthen dam that borders it. The growth of the pond and dam will largely be vertical, Mark Thompson, manager of environmental affairs, said.
